Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces: A Practical Comparison

Both options move teeth using continuous, controlled pressure — the real differences are in daily life, not underlying mechanics. Here’s how they actually compare on the things patients ask about most.
Visibility and daily routine
Clear aligners are close to invisible and come out for eating, brushing, and flossing — but that removability only works if you’re disciplined about 20–22 hours of daily wear. Traditional braces are fixed, visibly metal (or ceramic), and require no daily compliance decision, which some patients — and most parents of teenagers — actually prefer.
Treatment time and complexity
For mild-to-moderate crowding or spacing, aligners and braces often land in a similar timeframe. For more complex bite corrections, traditional braces still handle a wider range of cases predictably.
Cost ranges overlap more than people expect; the bigger cost driver is usually case complexity, not which system you choose. We’ll give you a real comparison at your consultation, not a marketing answer.
